Why I Built This Site
A few years ago, I found myself staring at a spreadsheet at 2 AM, trying to answer a simple question: can I actually afford to retire early? The math wasn't hard — multiply expenses by 25, pick a withdrawal rate — but the what-ifs were endless. What if the market crashes the year I quit? What if healthcare costs double? What if I move to a cheaper city?
I couldn't find a single tool that let me stress-test those scenarios quickly, without signing up for an account, and without my data leaving my browser. So I built one. Then another. Then a few dozen more.
FinRung is the result — a collection of financial calculators I actually use to make my own decisions. Every tool on this site started as a personal need: "I wish I could simulate X." If it helps you too, that's a bonus.
Important disclaimer: I am not a licensed financial advisor, CPA, or investment professional. I'm a developer who reads a lot of Fed data and likes building tools. These calculators are for educational and planning purposes only — they do not constitute financial advice. Always consult a qualified professional before making major financial decisions.
How We Keep It Free
Every calculator on this site is 100% free to use — no paywalls, no premium tiers, no "unlock full results" buttons. That's intentional. Financial literacy tools shouldn't be behind a paywall.
But servers, domains, and development time cost real money. To cover those costs and keep the site running long-term, here's the plan:
- Advertising — We may display ads in the future to help cover operational costs. They will always be clearly separated from content.
- Affiliate links — They will always be clearly marked with a visible tag like Sponsored or Affiliate. Affiliate relationships never influence our calculator results or recommendations.
Our promise: Calculator results are determined purely by math and publicly available data (Fed SCF, Census ACS, etc.). No amount of advertising revenue will change a formula or skew a percentile. If we ever violate this, call us out — we'll fix it.
Privacy
All calculations run entirely in your browser. Your income, net worth, and other inputs are never uploaded, stored, or transmitted to any server. We don't use accounts, we don't set tracking cookies, and we don't sell data — because we never collect it in the first place.
If we add advertising in the future, ad providers may use their own cookies for ad targeting. You can typically opt out through the provider's settings.
